He may be a polished, world-class golfer, but Jordan Spieth is still just 23 years old. So he’s not inclined to sneer at frat-boy antics, even on the golf course.
Spieth proved that on Thursday during the first round of The Barclays – a FedEx Cup playoff event, no less – when he reached the 12th tee at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y., and was asked by a fan to autograph his Budweiser beer bottle.
With Spieth being in the middle of a competition, you’d totally understand if he ignored the request. Instead, he made a nice gesture: He asked the fan to toss the bottle, which Spieth then signed.
Not that he needed help here, but we’re betting Spieth endeared himself to the New York crowd with this act.
Unfortunately, he’ll start Sunday at The Barclays at 3 under, six off Rickie Fowler’s lead score and with little chance of winning the playoffs opener.
