After a 4-0 drubbing of the Europeans on Friday morning, the Americans have the Ryder Cup record book looking to be revised.

Not since 1975 has a U.S. team swept the first session of the Ryder Cup.

Back then, U.S. Captain Arnold Palmer (who passed away Sunday) put out numerous future Hall of Famers at Laurel Valley.

• Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf defeated Brian Barnes and Bernhard Gallacher, 5 and 4

• Gene Littler and Hale Irwin defeated Norman Wood and Maurice Bembridge, 4 and 3

• Al Geiberger and Johnny Miller defeated Tony Jacklin and Peter Oosterhuis, 3 and 1

• Lee Trevino and J.C. Snead defeated Tommy Horton and John O’Leary, 2 and 1

It’s also the third time any side has gone undefeated in the opening session.

The United States has led after the first session on home soil 12 times previously. The Americans are 12-0 in those instances.

No team has ever led the Ryder Cup by three or more points after the first session and lost.

In the history of the Ryder Cup, a team on foreign soil that trailed after the first session has gone on to win only twice. Europe/GB&I has never pulled it off, while the U.S. did it in 1949 (trailed 2½-1½) and 1973 (trailed 3-1).
