CHASKA, Minn. – They don’t call him “Phil the Thrill” for nothing.
Phil Mickelson gave fans some excitement Friday morning in the opening foursomes session of the 41st Ryder Cup. On the par-5 sixth hole, Mickelson hit his tee shot way right and out of bounds. His partner Rickie Fowler then hit the third shot from the tee right, as well, and up against a fence.
That’s when “Lefty” went righty. Only this swing didn’t produce the same result as Mickelson’s right-handed wedge shot a few weeks ago at Gillette Stadium.
Mickelson instead hit a low shot that came out well left – and in true Mickelson style, between a fan’s legs.
