Cobra King LTD Black driver

Cobra released the King LTD driver last season after developing a partnership with the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space, an organization that worked on the International Space Station. The club was unique in many ways, and now Cobra is releasing an all-black version of it that once again pays homage to work in space.

From a performance standpoint, the Cobra King LTD Black’s head is identical to the original King LTD. The variable-thickness titanium face insert is designed to broaden the sweetspot and protect ball speed on off-center hits, and the MyFly adjustable hosel provides a 3-degree loft range. The crown is made from TeXtreme, a lightweight carbon composite that Cobra said is 20 percent lighter than carbon fiber commonly used in other crowns.

A 16-gram weight in the sole, called a SpacePort, unscrews and allows golfers to look inside the head. It was inspired by the International Space Station’s Cupola, a 9-foot, 10-inch earth and space observation platform. The SpacePort pulls the center of gravity down and toward the back of the head.

Cobra said that the CG is directly on the neutral axis, a theoretical line that extends straight back from the center of the face to the back of the club. As a result, spin is reduced, the initial launch angle is increased and the driver performs more efficiently.

Like the new King F7 and F7+ drivers, the King LTD Black comes standard with Cobra Connect, a shot-tracking system powered by Arcoss and built into the grip that lets golfers use a smartphone app to see how far they hit each drive and learn about tendencies.

The King LTD Black comes standard with an Aldila Rogue shaft for $449.
