Woods, like so many others, was overwhelmed by the course at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y. His U.S. Open began with a triple-bogey seven on No. 1, and a double on No. 2. He would never get back to par and miss the cut at +10 after 36 holes.

“I just haven’t putted well. If I would have putted like I did the beginning of the year with this ball striking, that would be ideal. Unfortunately, I just haven’t done that,” he said.
