Sergio Garcia

OWGR: 19

Best British Open finish: 2 (2007)

Last three British Opens: T-6, T-5, T-37

This season: The 2017 Masters champion was T-7 at the WGC-Mexico City, fourth at the Valspar and T-9 at the WGC-Match Play. He’s made only one cut since.

Why he could win: Lost a heartbreaker to Padraig Harrington here in 2007, just missing a birdie putt on final hole of a four-hole playoff that would have forced sudden death. Just needs to find a spark, and maybe returning to the British, the major he wants most and where he has 10 top-10s, will provide it.

Holding him back: It’s no secret his putting is a problem, but oddly this year Garcia’s driving has been just OK. But the British is kind to so-so putters and maybe return to Carnoustie will spark something. Gwk
