OWGR: 20

Best British Open finish: 1 (2013)

Last three British Opens: T-20, 2, MC

This season: A win at WGC-Mexico and a T-2 at Pebble Beach are the highlights, while a missed cut at the Players, T-36 at the Masters and T-48 at the U.S. Open have been disappointments.

Why he could win: The brutal runner-up to Henrik Stenson in 2016 would have been a dominating win any other year, and if there is one major that suits Mickelson at this point, it’s the British. The ingenuity and experience needed at Carnoustie should favor veterans, as will the accurate driving Mickelson showed at Shinnecock.

Holding him back: Two missed cuts at Carnoustie in 1999 and 2007 must be forgotten. There may be extra motivation to make us forget what happened at the U.S. Open.
