Jordan Spieth

OWGR: 6

Best British Open finish: 1 (2017)

Last three British Opens: T-4, T-30, 1

This season: Steady and solid West Coast Swing plus T-3 at Houston and third at Masters has given way to a rough patch of three missed cuts and no top-20s since.

Why he could win: Loves links golf, adores windy conditions and just needs to settle down. Ballstriking has been stout (13th in strokes gained tee-to-green). Has been known to work his way out of slumps pretty quickly. Perhaps hearing his name with “Champion Golfer of The Year” a few times will energize his game.

Holding him back: Strange anxiety, even desperation at times since his remarkable Masters final round. Maybe slower greens will help what has been the weakest part of his game (179th in strokes gained putting after Shinnecock).
