1963 – Jack Nicklaus dominates at Dallas Athletic Club

Aided by his course “charting,” Nicklaus opened the week with a long-drive contest win. To this day he carries the money clip earned for a 341-yard drive. But after a third-place finish in the British Open, Nicklaus was battling jet lag and the searing heat that made lifting the Wannamaker Trophy too hot to handle. So he used a towel after a two-stroke win over Dave Ragan that began an incredible career of five PGA Championship wins and four second-place finishes.
