Woods finished Round 2 of the FedEx Cup playoffs at the Dell Technologies with a 71 on Labor Day. His fortunes quickly improved a day later when he was selected as a captain’s pick by Jim Furyk for the U.S. 2018 Ryder Cup team. He had already been chosen a vice captain. He came out blazing in the BMW Championship with a 6-under 29 on the front nine before returning to earth. He entered the Tour Championship at No. 20 in the FedEx Cup standings and held the lead into Saturday. He nearly won the FedEx Cup, but happily settled for his first victory in 1,876 days.
