It was supposed to be a coronation. A stroll to the finish. Instead, the U.S. Women’s Open at Shoal Creek became a survival test for Ariya Jutanugarn. Up seven strokes with nine holes to play, Jutanugarn ultimately fought Hyo Joo Kim for four extra holes before claiming her second major title. The humble Thai player learned more from that near-collapse than any walkover could’ve taught her.
