TaylorMade TW Phase I Irons
TaylorMade announced Tiger Woods had signed an endorsement deal to play the company’s clubs at the 2017 PGA Merchandise Show. But Woods missed nearly all of the ensuing season after back surgery.
He returned to action in 2018, and at the Wells Fargo Championship in May he started using TaylorMade irons in competition for the first time. The TW Phase I irons are still in the prototype phase, and they are different than the P730-style irons that Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose play.

They are classic muscleback blades with a thin topline, narrow sole and minimal offset. Woods’ old Nike blades had pieces of tungsten added in the toe to shift the ideal hitting area more into the center of the face.
TaylorMade has been mum on details such as that, but Woods has been extremely demanding about his gear for decades, so it would not be surprising to discover extra weight was added to manipulate the center of gravity in the TW Phase I irons.
Woods ended the season ranked No. 1 on the PGA Tour in strokes gained approach the green (0.938) and won the season-ending Tour Championship.
