On the local rule on stroke and distance
“I was a little surprised by it, but I think it makes sense. If you watch people playing recreationally, and they happen to lose a ball and they didn’t hit a provisional from the tee, what is the normal player going to do? They’re not going to return to the tee. They’re going to go over to the side of the fairway or where they think it was lost, and drop a ball and play on – probably not adding a two-stroke penalty, but the USGA and R&A rightly made it a two-stroke penalty.”
