Best of Golf: Top 10 players of the 1990s

7. Davis Love III

PGA Tour victories in 1990s: 12 (of 21 total)

Major titles in 1990s: one (of one total)

One of the most powerful players of his era, Love shook off several near misses in majors and fired a closing 66 on a rainy day to beat Justin Leonard by five shots at the 1997 PGA Championship at Winged Foot. That breakthrough major title was highlighted by a rainbow on the closing hole, which reminded many – Love included – of his late father, noted golf instructor Davis Love Jr. That major victory also proved to be the last for a player using a wooden driver head.

Love would keep winning, becoming the third-oldest player to win on Tour with his victory at the 2015 Wyndham Championship at age 51. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2017.
