This was Woods’ first really close encounter with a win in his comeback. He was tied for the lead with 27 holes to play in the tournament and was still in the thick of it down the stretch Sunday. Woods drained a miraculous 44-footer for birdie on 17 to move within a shot of the lead. A 72nd-hole birdie would force a playoff. Woods could only make par, but he had contended heavily and ended up in a tie for second.
