College golf: 2023 NCAA men's conference championship dates and results

Conference championship season is underway in men’s college golf, with all roads leading to the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, in May.

Teams who win their conference titles score an Automatic Qualifying spot in NCAA Regionals, which is a big deal for any team that might find itself on the bubble for an at-large postseason selection. A win earns a postseason spot and gets you closer to a spot in the NCAA Championship.

Conference championships are listed below along with date and venue, and we’ll continue to update the list with winners and storylines as tournaments wrap up.

SWAC

Date: April 17-19
Host: Refuge Golf Course (Flowood, Mississippi)

Arkansas-Pine Bluff was the only team to shoot under par, finishing at 2 under to win the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship. It topped second-place Alabama State by 27 shots. Patrick Mwendapole shot 7 under for Arkansas-Pine Bluff to win medalist honors, and teammates Ismael Garcia (-1) and Li Su (+1) finished second and third.

Big South

Date: April 17-19
Host: The Patriot Golf Club (Ninety-Six, South Carolina)

For the first time in school history, Longwood captured the Big South title after defeating Charleston Southern in match play, 3-2-0. Longwood got into match play after finishing second in stroke play before beating Winthrop then Charleston Southern to take the crown. Radford’s Bryce Corbett won the individual title at 4 under.

SEC

Date: April 19-23
Host: Sea Island Seaside Course (Sea Island, Georgia)

It’s been 11 years but the Florida Gators are SEC champs once again. And they did it by taking out the two-time defending conference champions Vanderbilt at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Georgia.

It’s the 16th conference title all-time for Florida but the first under head coach J.C. Deacon.

“This is definitely for the Gator Nation. Shout out [athletic director] Jeremy Foley who took a shot on an assistant coach a long time ago. I told him I’d come here and get him a ring. So Jeremy, this one’s for you,” Deacon told Swamo247.

American Athletic

Date: April 21-23
Host: Pelican Golf Club (Bellaire, Florida)

For the first time since 2013, the Houston Cougars men’s golf team won a conference title, claiming the American Athletic on Sunday in Florida.

Houston also had the first- and second-place golfers in the individual race, with junior Santiago De La Fuente taking medalist honors and senior Austyn Reily finishing runnerup.

Ivy League

Date: April 21-23
Host: Century Country Club (Purchase, New York)

For the second time in three years, Princeton won the Ivy League Championship. Princeton finished at 16 over, 18 shots better than Columbia. Riccardo Fantinelli for Princeton won the individual title, shooting 5 under. Harvard’s Brian Ma was the only other player under par at 1 under.

Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference

Date: April 21-23
Host: Disney’s Palm Golf Course (Lake Buena Vista, Florida)

Siena captured the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title, finishing at 7-under 857 to win by 12 shots over Fairfield. However, it was Fairfield’s  Killian McGinley who captured individual honors, shooting 6-under 210 to win by one shot against Hank Schaefer from Mount St. Mary.

ACC

Date: April 21-24
Host: Country Club of North Carolina (Pinehurst, North Carolina)

Georgia Tech captured the 2023 ACC title in match play, knocking off Wake Forest 3-2 to win the title. It’s the 19th ACC title for the Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech was also the top seed heading to match play. In stroke play, Wake’s Michael Brennan beat GT’s Hiroshi Tai on the second playoff hole to win medalist honors after both golfers finished at 9 under.

Southern

Date: April 23-25
Host: Reynolds-Lake Oconee (Greensboro, Georgia)

It was a tight battle at the top, but East Tennessee State prevailed to capture the 2023 Southern Conference Championship. ETSU finished at 30 under, beating Chattanooga by five shots and Furman by nine. ETSU’s Mats Ege won the individual title, finishing at 14 under.

Colonial Athletic Association

Date: April 23-25
Host: Dataw Island-Cotton Dike (Saint Helena, South Carolina)

North Carolina Wilmington captured the Colonial Athletic Association title, shooting 15 under to win by nine strokes over Elon. UNCW’s Patrick Sparks pulled away in the individual competition, shooting 11 under and winning by four shots.

Horizon League

Date: April 23-25
Host: Mission Inn Resort and Club El Campeon Course (Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida)

Purdue Fort Wayne captured the Horizon League Conference title with a 6-over performance, topping Wright State by five shots and Oakland by seven. Wright State’s Tyler Goecke took the individual crown in a playoff, beating Kasey Lilly from Purdue Fort Wayne. Both players finished stroke play at 4 under.

Missouri Valley

Date: April 23-25
Host: Oakwood Country Club (Coal Valley, Iowa)

Illinois State captured the Missouri Valley Conference Championship, finishing at 16 under par and beating second-place Valparaiso by 13 shots. Valpo’s Anthony Delisanti shot 13-under 200 to win the individual title by four shots. 

Ohio Valley

Date: April 23-25
Host: Dalhousie Golf Club (Cape Girardeau, Missouri)

Little Rock was the only team to finish under par in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship, carding a 24-under 840 to win by 25 strokes over SIU Edwardsville. Little Rock’s Anton Albers captured the individual title at 11 under, winning by five shots.

Big 12

Date: April 24-26
Host: Prairie Dunes (Hutchinson, Kansas)

The Oklahoma men’s golf team won its second straight Big 12 Conference Championship, shooting 1 under over 72 holes to top second-place Texas Tech by 18 shots. In the individual race, Texas Tech’s Ludvig Aberg ran away with the trophy, finishing at 15 under and winning by a record eight shots.

Big Sky

Date: April 24-26
Host: Talking Stick (Scottsdale, Arizona)

Northern Colorado captured the Big Sky Conference Championship, shooting 5 over and seven shots in front of Sacramento State for the crown. However, Sacramento State’s Casey Leebrick shot 8-under 202, winning the individual title by six shots.

Atlantic Sun

Date: April 25-26
Host: RTJ Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove (Mobile, Alabama)

Liberty and North Florida pulled away from the pack, but it was the Flames who ended up with the conference title, shooting 53 under and winning by four shots. North Florida was four strokes better in the final round, but it wasn’t enough.

In the individual race,  Jonathan Yaun from Liberty shot 18 under to win by two shots over Jacksonville’s Joseph Sullivan and North Florida’s Nick Gabrelcik.

Southland

Date: April 25-27
Host: Hill Country Golf Club (San Antonio, Texas)

Augusta captured the Southland Conference Championship, finishing at 6 under and 14 strokes in front of New Orleans. Augusta’s Stefan Jacobs also ran away with the individual title, shooting 13 under and winning by six shots.

Conference USA

Date: April 24-27
Host: Texarkana Country Club (Texarkana, Arkansas)

Charlotte captured the Conference USA title, beating Louisiana Tech 3-2 in match play. Charlotte also beat Middle Tennessee State by one shot in stroke play to earn the lowest match-play seed. Louisiana Tech’s James Swash was the only golfer to shoot under par, finishing at 2 under to claim medalist honors.

Sun Belt

Date: April 24-27
Host: Annadale Golf Club (Madison, Mississippi)

Louisiana upset Georgia Southern to win the Sun Belt title, winning 3-2 in match play. Louisiana was the third-seeded team in match play while Georgia Southern was the top seed and favorite. South Alabama’s Hugo Thyr shot 8 under, winning individual medalist honors by one shot over Coastal Carolina’s Seth Taylor.

West Coast

Date: April 27-29
Host: Golf Mountain Golf Club (Bremerton, Washington)

BYU held on to knock off San Francisco and Pepperdine to win the West Coast Conference Championship, finishing at 21 under, one shot in front of San Francisco and 11 in front of Pepperdine. BYU’s Zac Jones topped Loyola Marymount’s Riley Lewis in a playoff. 

Pac-12

Date: April 28-30
Host: Stanford Golf Course (Stanford, California)

Stanford used a huge final round to come from behind and win the Pac-12 Conference title on its home course. The Cardinal finished at 19 under and shot 4 under in the final round, the only team to break par, beating Arizona State by 13 shots. Stanford’s Michael Thorbjornsen won the individual medalist honors at 15 under.

Big East

Date: April 28-30
Host: Riverton Pointe Golf and Country Club (Hardeeville, South Carolina)

Marquette captured the 2023 Big East Conference Championship, finishing at 9 over and topping second-place St. John’s by three shots. Bhoom Sima-Aree from Marquette won the individual title, finishing at 3 under and beating St. John’s Jack Simon in a playoff.

Mountain West

Date: April 28-30
Host: OMNI Tuscon National (Tuscon Arizona)

San Diego State captured the 2023 Mountain West Conference championship, finishing at 60 under and winning by a huge 25 shots. SDSU shot 28 under in the final round to pull away from the field. Individually, Dylan Oyama from SDSU won the title in a playoff, beating Colorado State’s Christoph Bleier on the first playoff hole.

WAC

Date: April 28-30
Host: Boulder Creek Golf Club (Boulder City, Nevada)

Grand Canyon shot 11 under in the final round to win the Western Athletic Conference Championship, beating New Mexico State by five shots. The teams were tied going into the final round. New Mexico State’s Garrison Smith won the individual title, shooting 19 under and winning by seven shots.

Atlantic 10

Date: April 28-30
Host: Reunion Resort and Golf Club (Orlando, Florida)

For the third straight year, Davidson has won the Atlantic 10 Conference title, shooting 1 over and winning by eight shots over Loyola Chicago. Davidson’s Alex Heffner also grabbed the individual title, shooting 10 under and winning by four shots.

Big 10

Date: April 28-30
Host: Galloway National (Galloway, New Jersey)

Eight in a row. 13 of the last 14. Illinois men’s golf is a machine, as it continued its dominance winning the Big 10 title. Illinois finished at 8 under, the only team under par, to win the title. Iowa’s Mac McClear and Northwestern’s Daniel Svard were named co-medalists after finishing at 3 under.

MAC

Date: April 30-May 2
Host: Canebrake Golf Club (Athens, Alabama)

Northern Illinois topped Ball State by four shots to capture the MAC title. NIU finished at 5 over while Ball State was at 9 over. In the individual competition, Toledo’s Barend Botha shot 5 under and beat Danny Fisher from Miami (OH) by one shot.

Summit League

Date: April 30-May 2
Host: Wilderness Ridge Golf Course (Lincoln, Nebraska)

Kansas City knocked off Denver and Oral Roberts to win the Summit League title. Kansas City shot 33 over, beating Denver by four shots and ORU by nine. Kansas City’s Joshuaa Robards won the individual title, shooting 2 over. 

Big West

Date: April 30-May 2
Host: La Quinta Country Club (La Quinta, California)

Long Beach State captured the Big West Conference championship, shooting 12 under and beating CSU-Fullerton by by two shots. There was a three-way tie for medalist honors, but LBSU’s Ian Gilligan won the title on the first playoff hole, beating Cal Poly’s Baron Szeto and CSU-Fullerton’s Russel Howlett. 

Northeast

Date: April 30-May 2
Host: LPGA International (Daytona Beach, Florida)

Long Island captured the Northeast Conference Championship, shooting 6 over to beat second-place Howard by five shots. Marcelo Mexsen from Long Island was the only golfer to shoot under par, finishing at 4 under and winning medalist honors by four shots.
